Halloween: Scary Fun

We have all seen it.  When we were young we either noticed them or were them.  The house with no lights on Halloween.  Yes.  That is part of what this discussion is about.  As you may have known our haunt The Asylum Extreme Haunt was shut down.  I being not one of the head members could not tell you specifics but it sounded like a group of religious individuals did not want it to happen and therefore shut us down.

I want to say I understand your point.  A bunch of people dressing-up especially children to celebrate this night.  It looks as if we want to be evil or demonic or whatever you want to call us, but remember for all those scary ghouls that children dress as there are just as many princesses, princes, angels, heroes, animals, pumpkins, characters from positive movies (Wizard of Oz), and many more good nature personas that people (children and adults) what to be so that they can express themselves for one night of the year.

Now, before one judges please understand the nature of Halloween.  It was a celebration of the fall harvest for farmers.  It was also believed that Halloween or three days after which is known as El Dia De Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) in Hispanic cultures, was a day where the spirit of your ancestors come to eat with you for one night and provide you protection, hope, redemption, love, and much more for your future.  Food was left out on the tables so all the family could feast together.  As the food rotted it meant the spirits were feeding with you in your home.

Halloween also came to be for similar reason in more cultures pasts.  It was still a celebration for a community but also the costumes one wore was to help protect you from the evil that may have came out that night.  The costumes were meant to disguise you so a spirit would not attach themselves to you and the scarier the costume the more evil would fear you and run away from you and your family so you could be safe for another year.  Granted this is more of a disturbing belief than others but still the concept remains that Halloween was meant to bring good fortune to your family and scare darkness and evil away.  Gargoyles were also designed for this purpose and can be seen on past buildings, yet we do not shun them.

Anyway, I love Halloween because it is exciting, thrilling, and gives me a chance to use my imagination in a mundane world.  That has its own nature of waking up, going to work, and being with your family for a couple of hours before you sleep and do it all again.  Halloween brings families together many costumes are designed for entire families to dress up together be with one another for a night and share a lovely evening with family.  I know I may be talking to much but it does bother me that one person, one belief, could take many peoples excitement away.  The haunt would have brought money to a community, would brought families together, helped small businesses make a name, and give thrills and excitement for one month.  But I will not judge you and I will respect your request, but I would love to know why?

P.S.  I hope you enjoyed this blog.  I would love to here your opinion on the subject.  I respect all people as I hope they offer the same to me.  Feel free to comment or let me know what history you know of Halloween.  My opinions are just that, an opinion so please feel free to express yours.  Thank you for your time.  Have a good one.  MOlevolent ALbatross.
