I am asking any and all who love the writings of H.P. Lovecraft to come forward and find me a good Lovecraftian movie. There has been many Lovecraft movies that are based on his lore but none have been what I call great.
I am writing this because I started to read some of Mr. Lovecraft’s works and greatly enjoyed them. The psychological and descriptive writings has painted amazing images in my head but no one has brought them to life in a movie. Sure their have been some movies out there such as Dagon, Arkham Sanitarium, and others but none have captured the mood of Mr. Lovecraft’s stories. Hell Arkham Sanitarium had so overweight guy in an orange jumpsuit with a octopus gas mask on claiming to be Cthulu. Yeah that didn’t work. The director even put in a scene in which one of the victims got faced raped by an octopus. That kind of just insults the lore of Lovecraft. This is just plan aggravating.
I wrote this article to plea to any and all who can help me locate a decent Lovecraft movie. The closest I got was entitled, “The Call of Cthulhu,” which was produced in 2005. The Director Andrew Leman did an excellent job. He gave the creepy overtone of the Lovecraftian world and did it as a silent, black, and white film that came out amazing in my opinion. But since then I have searched and found not to many movies based off of the stories written by Lovecraft that were good. I have not watched to many, maybe 5 but am willing to check them out if someone can point them out to me and I can locate them. This article was a plea so that I can find some great Lovecraft movies because lets face it, Mr. Lovecraft was great at creating a dreary overtone with his stories that provided an atmosphere unique to his imaginary world with a great since of gloom and doom.
