Before everyone starts talking shit let me assure that the new Ghostbusters is good. It will never compete with the original but it does respect its roots. This is a comedic based movie with some horror elements but is meant for the family. This movie was meant to be a homage to the original. Most of the cast are well known for there comedic prowess so it was made to be funny. I enjoyed this movie and it should be respected for what it is not what people wanted it to be.
The premise of the movie was that a Professor who believed in the paranormal wanted to escape that world and be a professional. However, that world crashes down on her when a book she wrote with her friend is discovered and presented to her after a ghost attack. Professor Gilbert confronts her friend Dr. Yates about the book and ensue into an argument while Holtzman a colleague of Dr. Yates listens in. So, Professor Gilbert says if I take you to the ghost will you take the book down off of amazon. The deal is made but to Professor Gilbert’s surprise a ghost is found and she in this group with the help of Patty a recent witness to a ghost attack, form the new Ghostbusters to stop an ghostly apocalypse from happening because of a young man Rowan North getting back at those who made fun of him as he grew up and picked on him.
This movie was meant to be fun and amusing. The original cast supports it because SPOILER ALERT they all appear in the movie. The movie ended in such a way that a sequel or the fourth installment of the series the originals may return. I say this due to a theory that a came up with after watching the movie. That this could be start of a Ghostbuster Universe such as Marvel and DC. Which is supported by a friend of mine who claimed that this might happen. All in all the movie was great, I especially enjoyed the battle between the Ghostbusters and many apparition filmed like a 300 fight scene all in slow motion. I believe the expectation from the past has clouded are judgement on this endeavor because then it was something original, unexpected and now it is in the shadows of greatness. However, now let me throw this curve-ball at you. What if this is in preparation of something good? After the destruction of Vigo the Carpathian in the second Ghostbusters.
This is my movie theory. In this movie the mayor has a group of individuals appointed and assigned to the study of supernatural. He continuously harass the new Ghostbusters about keeping ghost a secret so the city and the world will not panic. The mayor in the original was a skeptic too until his city was attacked which happens to be the same city. So after the destruction of Vigo the mayor said to the original team, “Do not let this spread or I will charge you with the destruction you caused and on top of that you must disband.” Well the Ghostbusters accepted that because they love the city. Each of them took a job to further study but on the down-low. Venkman became a skeptic knowing since he studied psychology in the original that if a ghost were to appear he could possibly explore these claims and say if they are true or false. He then can talk to the others who did not leave to bring back the team. Stantz became a cabby so he could explore haunted locations at night, I mean how else would a cabby know what a, “Class 3 flying vapor,” is without prior knowledge. Winston surrounded himself with the dead to make sure none of them would come back. Spengler passed away after becoming a tenured Professor at a local university in order to find a recruit future Ghostbusters from the classroom. However, he did not live due to the fact that the technology was nuclear related and he was just to exposed (No disrespect to Harold Ramis). So the university created a golden bust for this brilliant scientist in memory. Everyone of the Ghostbusters stayed in New York just in case something big was going to happen.
I really did enjoy this movie and maybe in a fourth Ghostbuster movie all the Ghostbusters will join together and fight in a slimy, comedic performance in the future. One can wish. Hope you enjoyed this reading. Thank you.
