Ouija: The Origin Of Evil

Now this shit was crazy.  I saw this movie last weekend with my girlfriend and her mother and it pulled off what it was supposed to do.  This movie was a combination of possessions and psychological mind games.  The movie was done well and was just creepy.  I enjoyed this movie and though it may not be popular now it will probably have a little following in the future.

The movie took place in 1963-1964.  This movie was supposedly based on true events.  It was about a widower and her two children trying to make ends meet.  It was full of scary sequences but not to many jump scares.  This movie gave you the creepy vibe not the, “I am going to get you,” vibe of most horror movies today.  The family was trying to make money by in a way scamming people who had lost there loved ones.  The mother set up a psychic/fortune-teller business in her house.  It was a scam because her daughters both help create psychic phenomenon within the house so they could, “help,” the people with coping.  This scam was good but did not make the money they needed so the family was about to lose their home.  One night the eldest daughter snuck out to a friend’s house to party.  This friends parents had bought a Ouija Board to play with at the house.  The group of kids began playing with it and ended up being caught by the friends parents.  This was part of the beginning of the nightmare.

The next day the eldest daughter told her mother that she should by a Ouija Board for their show.  The mother did just that, while the kids were at school.  She then set up her table so she could place strong magnets under the table to control the viewer that came with the Ouija Board by her knees.  There was one issue.  One day the youngest daughter decided to play with the Ouija and woke up something evil. She thought it was her father that was talking to her through the board and it was not at all.  Upon releasing this evil she began to be corrupted by the forces and aided her mother in scamming people by being possessed every so often to answer the questions of their clients.  The power became great and this is when evil took over.

The movie was excellent.  It was not designed to be a jump scare movie but just to have a horrific overtone.  The director pulled this off excellently.  I also felt though generic at times the special effects were excellent.  There were some Easter eggs in the movie from other horror movies but altogether and good find.
