Legend (1985)

A movie that I have not forgotten at even this age.  This fantasy/horror film has embedded the vision of the devil that I recognize most notably today, backed with excellent performances from Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, and Tim Curry and many other performances rounding out many fantastical creatures.

The fantasy of this story speaks of a time where good and evil, light and dark, were in constant battle but balance must remain.  The story begins with two lovers meeting one another in a forest.  In the midst of the love and romance brought to the natural setting an evil presence was searching for a unicorn in order to destroy it for those creatures were the purest form of good and light.  The two lovers met deep in the forest where the forest child (Tom Cruise) showed his lover (Mia Sara) Lili the unicorns dancing with one another in love.  Lili so impressed by these creatures she went to touch one which caused a backlash of evil to penetrate this peaceful world with goblins killing a unicorn and its horn removed as a trophy for The Darkness (Tim Curry).  A devil that wants light for ever to be destroyed.  After knowing what they did the lovers try to fight and defend the last unicorn against this evil.

The movie is full of fantasy and adventure.  The make up and set design puts shows a beautiful world destroyed by darkness and evil.  The film was rated PG though it is not necessarily designed that way, with decapitations and humans getting devoured and butchered in the opening scenes.  But the make up and design does give you a feel of evil throughout and the performances were all well done.
