One Page Horror Presents: My Friend Autumn

It was the last class of the day and Laura Anne was finishing up in the locker room, when she notice as she stood up from the bench, little red spots had pooled on the off white bench. She saw that her gym shorts had stained a dark color. Liz happened to notice it and began to yell. “Check it out girls. We have a bleeder. The little rich girl needs a cork.” The girls surrounded Laura Anne and began mocking her. Mortified and humiliated Laura Anne threw on her jeans and shirt and ran fast towards the exit.

Behind her school was a wooded area where she dashed deep into the woods until her legs could no longer move. Her emotions built up into an amalgamation of hate, anger, humiliation, and sadness as she screamed into the woods and with tears pouring from her eyes she started to hyperventilate.

“Are you okay?” Startled Laura Anne spun around and spotted a red headed pale gothic beauty and springing up she asked, “Who are you?”

“My name is Autumn. I heard you screaming and crying and wanted to see if you needed help.”

Oddly enough Lauren Anne felt comforted by Autumn’s presents. She opened up to this young goth as she explained what just happened to her in the locker room. Autumn listen intently as the story went on. Autumn then told Laura Anne, “Those bitches acted the same way towards me not too long ago. I hated them.”

“Really?” Laura Anne said. “What did you do about it?”

“I came here to escape from them and talk to my mom.” As Autumn pointed to freshly picked flowers that had just been placed recently on the ground. “She was always willing to listen to me and she brings me cheer every time we talk.”

“What happened to your mom?” Laura Anne asked.

“It happened two years ago. One night I was fighting with her and I left. Heartbroken my mom went looking for me and came out here. She climbed that large rock…” Autumn paused as tears welled up in her eyes, ” I do not want to talk about it anymore. Maybe another time.”

“That is fine Autumn maybe another time.” Laura Anne comforted her.

“I appreciate it Laura Anne. I have to go now. But if you ever need someone to chat with come fine me. I am always willing to listen and sometimes that is all someone needs to make them feel better about life.”

“Thanks Autumn. I am glad we met.” Laura Anne states before she turns to walk back to the school. She heard Autumn walking back towards the make shift grave that was created and wanted to turn to give Autumn a hug. As she turned Autumn was not there so she called out. “Thanks.” Just beyond the large rock she heard Autumn’s calming voice yell back. “Anytime.” As it echoed back to Laura Anne. Curious Laura Anne walked back to the make shift memorial where the fresh flowers lay. She knelt down and pushed the dirt off of a small plaque that read: In Remembrance of My Precious Daughter Autumn.
